Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

I would like to thank the Washington Daily News for carrying Gene Lyons’ column. I find his viewpoints interesting and intellectually stimulating. To the caller who thinks he’s idiotic: you really should expose yourself to different ideas rather than the Fox News group think that passes for news in certain circles.

Help me out here. If requiring people to buy their own private health insurance so you don’t have to pay for their health care is socialism, then isn’t having us pay the cost of the ferry system so that you can ride it free to work also socialism?

Regarding the opinion-page column on Thursday, March 22, by Gene Lyons, if the Daily News had stopped that column by Lyons after paragraph three, it would have been a great, great piece. The rest of it is, well, I won’t even say the word — a lot of junk.

Have we’ve gone to an afternoon paper or no paper at all? It’s almost 9 o’clock and we still haven’t gotten a paper.

I’d like to know why our county and city vehicles, after hours, are being parked at the baseball complex while the children are practicing. I don’t feel like taxpayers should have to pay for county vehicles and city vehicles to park at the baseball fields.

Thank you for running Walter Williams’ editorial each Sunday. I look forward to the common sense observations he has. Now if we could just get Walter Williams to run for president.
