Charlie was born on September 1, 1915 in Beaufort County, NC, son of the late Frank Warner and Annie Wall Warner. He married the love of his life, Maude Elizabeth Gibbs, on October 4, 1939, who preceded him in death in 2002. Charlie and Maude devoted their life to their only children, Lee and Lou, who were twins and later to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Warner managed his family home farm for a few years and then went into carpentry business which later became known as Charlie Warner and Son Builders. Charlie loved his work and he took great pride in building the best houses he could. He was a superb craftsman and expected the same from all that worked with him. In all the dozens of homes he built, the end result was always satisfying. After he retired, Charlie and Maude spent 20 years traveling and camping all over the United State with their friends, “The Traveling Tar Heels.” They spent the winter months camping in Lakeland, FL. He was baptized in the First Christian Church and was an active member for many years. He was also the treasurer of the Washington Lions Club for 18 years and a member for more than 35 years.
Mr. Charlie Lee Warner Sr. is survived by a son, Charlie Lee Warner Jr. and wife, Ruth of Washington, NC; a daughter Luanne Warner Deppa and husband, Bruce of Darnestown, MD; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Warner and James Warner; two sisters, Elizabeth Winstead and Gertrude Berry; and a grandson, Todd Warner.
