Suzanne Gleason Buchanan, age 82, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
Mrs. Buchanan was born in Groton, NY, March 29, 1928 to the late Annie Laurie Page Gleason and Carl R. Gleason. She was raised in Groton, NY and then received her Bachelors degree from the State University of NY at Plattsburg. After marrying Julian Nelson Buchanan, Suzanne taught school in the Charlotte, NC school system. After raising her daughter, Page, in Washington, NC, Suzanne resumed her career as a social worker for Beaufort County Department of Social Services where she worked for over 20 years.
Suzanne was very active in her church, First United Methodist Church of Washington, NC. She was a member of the E. Frank Ruble Sunday School Class and the Lucille Carter Circle. She also took care of the Methodist Church Sunday School nursery class for many years and enjoyed meeting the young families and children in the church.
Suzanne was also active in Foster Care charities and served on the Beaufort County Board of Mental Health for many years. Suzanne is survived by her daughter, Page Buchanan Davis and son-in-law, John F. Davis of 1505 Peoples Creek Road, Advance, NC. She is also survived by her former husband and Pages father, Julian N. Buchanan, also of Advance, NC. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers and sisters-in-law and one nephew. Her brothers and sisters-in-law were William Gleason and Phyllis Gleason of Silver Lake, NY and Carl P. Gleason and Mary Louise Gleason Nenno of Palm Coast, Florida and a nephew, Douglas Gleason of Myrtle Beach, SC. Suzanne is survived by four nephews and one niece and their families. They are Bill Gleason, Neil Gleason, Tom Gleason of Madison, Wisconsin, John Gleason of Freeport, Maine, and Martha Gleason Cobb of Tampa, Florida.
The family will receive friends in the parlor of First United Methodist Church, 304 W. 2nd Street, Washington, NC on Saturday, November 13th from noon until 2 p.m. All friends are invited to drop by the church.
