An abundance of art will be on display Nov. 18 in downtown Washington as the Washington Harbor District Alliance and the Beaufort County Arts Council roll out the next ArtWalk.
The event will unfold from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
ArtWalk encourages would-be patrons of the visual arts to take a walking tour of shops and galleries that sell or display original works.
Some of the galleries will offer wine, other beverages and hors d’oeuvres, and a few downtown businesses have hosted musicians for past ArtWalks.
“Most of the galleries try to plan something special,” said Joey Toler, executive director of the arts council.
The tour “definitely fills up downtown,” Toler related.
This will be the third ArtWalk. The first was held in November 2009, the second this spring.
“When we did the first one, it really gave me a thrill to see all those people downtown in the stores in the evening hours,” said Beth Byrd, executive director of the Harbor District Alliance.
Participating shops or galleries include Art Tyndall Studio, BCAC’s Lane Gift Shop &Gallery, Crabby’s Stained Glass &Collectibles, Inner Banks Artisans’ Center, Lone Leaf Gallery &Custom Framing, Notes Café/Evolution Gallery &Lounge, RiverWalk Gallery and the Turnage Theater.
Walkers will be allowed to enter the Washington Civic Center’s gallery to get a look at award-winning entries in the arts council’s Fine Arts Show, which was held in October.
Patrons also will have a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from Stewart’s Jewelry Store, and the public will be allowed to view an unveiling of a Gen. George Washington portrait by Jerry Bradley at IBX Artisans’ Center.
RiverWalk will hold its regular quarterly reception during the evening, with the work of artist Pat Holscher in the front of the gallery.
Also, RiverWalk will hold a drawing for a piece of pottery, said Sam Wall, president of the gallery.
Wall spoke approvingly of ArtWalk.
“I think it’s been good for everybody,” he said, adding a number of gallery owners share that opinion.
