Plymouth punched its ticket to the Sectional Round of the playoffs in impressive fashion as the third-seeded Vikings crushed No. 2 Creswell 50-6 on Friday in the District Round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs.
The Vikings (12-1) held a 22-0 halftime lead before it allowed the back-to-back Tideland Conference champion Tigers (9-3) to score in the third quarter. It would be the Tigers only score of the game.
Ronnell Blount galloped through the Creswell defense for 163 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Vikings, while Dylan Watts tallied 59 yards and two scores. Devonte Bland also ran for 59 yards and had one touchdown and Damarcus Price added 55 yards.
Plymouth will move on to the Sectional Round of the playoffs where it will face fellow Four Rivers Conference co-champions Manteo, who handed the Vikings their only defeat of the season in Week 11.
Manteo (11-2), the No. 1 seed, advanced to the Sectional Round by topping No. 4 Southside 40-27 Friday Night. The Seahawks finished the year with a 9-4 record.
No. 1 Southwest Onslow 49, No. 4 Riverside 10
Riverside’s season came to an end on Friday as it fell 49-10 to Southwest in the District Round of the NCHSAA 1-AA playoffs.
Turnovers haunted the fourth-seeded Knights (10-3) as they came in the form of interceptions and fumbles and gave the No. 1 seeded Stallions extra possessions.
Ramelle Lanier scored Riverside’s only touchdown when he ripped off a 60-yard scoring run.
