Sally B. Keech, age 69, a resident of 7201 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown, NC, departed from this life on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at her residence. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 80 Cedar Circle, Washington, NC. The family will receive friends at Hillside Funeral Service on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 5:00 –7:00 p.m. and other times at the home.
Mrs. Keech was born on January 2, 1941, in Beaufort County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Harry Skinner Brooks and Roxie Lee Sawyer Brooks. On January 3, 1958, she married William B. Keech, Jr., who survives. She attended school at the Sladesville and Swan Quarter schools. Mrs. Keech previously worked at the Riverforest Manor and Dawson’s Clothing Store in Belhaven. Later she worked as a custodian at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Washington, NC. Additionally she worked along side her husband as both a tobacco farmer and strawberry grower. Together they ran a vegetable produce resale business known as The Garden Spot.
Her role in life that she most treasured was that of a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was a friend to all who knew her. Mrs. Keech was able to play an active role in the life and care of her grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Pie." Additionally she was an accomplished artist, who loved to paint and enjoyed woodworking.
Mrs. Keech was a former member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church in Pinetown, and a current member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Washington, NC. After retirement, she and her husband traveled the lower 48 states, spending time with friends out West, and more recently traveled to Canada and Alaska.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Keech is survived by her son, Mitchell Keech and wife Virginia of Pinetown; her daughter, Pam Keech Cox and husband Tracy of Pinetown; six grandchildren: Justin Keech and wife Megan, Phillip Hassell and wife Erin, Madison Keech, Amanda Hassell, Kyle Cox, and Adam Cox. One great granddaughter, Ava, two brothers, James and William Lowe of Scranton and one sister, Edna B. Harrell of Bath also survive her. One brother, Buddy Brooks and her stepfather, Reid Lowe, preceded her in death.
