Mrs. Michi Ohira Smith, age 77, a resident of Belhaven, died Dec. 1, 2010 at Autumnfield of Belhaven.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at Belhaven Community Cemetery officiated by Rev. Greg Nunley.
Mrs. Michi was born in Hokkaido, Japan, on July 7, 1933, daughter of the late Soshiro and Tsuroyo Ohira. She was a graduate of Hokkaido High School and later moved to the states in 1957. Mrs. Michi married Manuel Gray Smith on Jan. 21, 1971 who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2001. She worked in sewing factories in Belhaven and Washington and was a member of First Christian Church of Belhaven.
Survivors include a son: Steven Thomas Miller; a daughter: Rhonda Miller; a mother-in-law: Etta Smith; two sisters-in-law: Mary Etta Jones and her husband, John Tankard Jones, and Liz Simpson and her husband, Franklin; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Michi was preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Patricia Smith.
Due to ongoing family health concerns, the family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
