John M. Hanna, age 64, a resident of Alderson Road, Washington, N.C., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. A rosary service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8 p.m. and other times at the home. A funeral mass will be held at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Arturo Cabra.
Mr. Hanna was born on Oct. 13, 1946 in Ireland, son of the late Patrick and Margaret Sullivan Hanna. He received his formal education in Ireland. On May 12, 1973, he married the former Eileen O’Prey. In 1996, Mr. Hanna moved to Washington, N.C. from Rochelle, Ill., to work as the director of production and manufacturing for National Spinning. He was involved in the textile industry for 41 years until his retirement. Prior to living in Rochelle, he lived in England.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ann Hollonbeck of Decatur, Ga., and Helen Marie Hanna of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, Barry Joseph Hanna of Delray Beach, Fla., other survivors include, one grandchild, Abigail Sydney Hollonbeck, also of Decatur, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials may be made in memory of John Michael Hanna to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC, 27889.
