Mrs. Evelyn Swindell Dixon, 95, formerly of Swan Quarter and a resident of the Greensboro area for the past seven years, died early Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at Adams Farm Living and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro.
Born in Hyde County, Nov. 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Monroe and Mary Etta Baum Harris. She was first married to Mac Swindell and, following his death, she married Orin Dixon who also preceded her in death. She served as Register of Deeds in Hyde County for 29 years before her retirement, was a loyal member of Soule United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Soule United Methodist Church. Rev. Jerald Craddock and Steve Bryan will officiate. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
Surviving are her daughter, Joy S. Brewer and husband, Wayne of Greensboro; Joy’s sisters, Sharyn Schmitt and husband, Herb and Cindy McGowan and husband, Gary, all of Washington; grandson, Gary Brewer and wife, Ginny of High Point; great-granddaughters, Merritt Brewer, Claudia Brewer and Holden Brewer; stepchildren, Lenora Kay Fogle and Edward Dixon of New Bern and Charles Dixon of Texas.
Mrs. Dixon was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Harris and a brother, Ray Harris.
