Mrs. Sara Oden Mahaffee, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Friends Home-West. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Christ United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mahaffee was born June 17, 1930, in Washington, to the late John William Oden and Sara Wall Griggs Oden. She taught elementary school for several years and later tutored adults who were learning to read. Sara was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Circle #3. She was a member of bridge and book clubs in Greensboro and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Sara was preceded in death by her husband, W. Collins Mahaffee, M.D. on Aug. 23, 1990.
Survivors include her children: Mac Mahaffee and wife Linda of Mentor, Ohio; Patricia Mahaffee Gingrich and husband Bob of Carrboro; sister, Elizabeth Current and husband Bill of Gastonia; grandchildren, Corey Gingrich, Abby Gingrich, Mary Mahaffee, John Mahaffee; and beloved nieces and nephews-especially Chris Summey and wife Lois who were her guardian angels.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Christ United Methodist Church.
