Mr. Bobby Joe Gurganus, 60, a resident of 17271 Governor Harrison Parkway, Freeman, Va., died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center of Richmond, Va.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at the First Church of Christ of Washington officiated by Steve Hill and Eddie Bowen. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Grover S. Woolard, Lee Cutler, Jerry O. Howell, Johnny Woolard, Robert Earl Weathersby and Eddie Gurganus will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Gurganus was born in Beaufort County on July 24, 1950, son of the late Joseph Owen Gurganus and the late Thelma Heath Gurganus. He attended Washington High School and married the former Judith OBrien Cratch on Dec. 21, 1969, who survives. Mr. Gurganus was a regional sales manager with Barnes Transportation Services in Wilson.
Surviving along with Mr. Gurganus wife Judy of the home is a daughter: Heather Nikol Endres of Roanoke Rapids; a sister: Jackie Cutler of Monroe and four grandchildren: Cody Mateo Marquez, Alexander Cameron Marquez, Johnathan Endres and Ryan Michael Endres.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until the funeral hour Sunday at First Church of Christ.
