Jim Rennie

James Thomas “Jim” Rennie IV, 69, of 208 Sunset Drive, Hertford, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011.

Born in Allegheny County, Pa., he was the son of the late James Thomas III and Margaret Stuller Rennie. He retired as a computer technician with Sprint Telephone Company, later became an ordained minister, preaching at the Christ Church of Rosebay in Swan Quarter and also worked part-time as an assistant with Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services.

He was a member of Berea Church of Christ and American Legion Post #126. He loved working with young boys having coached Little League, Babe Ruth and Pony League ball. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army, a Mason and member of the Scottish Rite Bodies.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn White Rennie; a son and his wife, Ernest James “Ernie” Rennie and Tiffany of Hertford; two daughters and their husbands, Lisa Rennie Brock and Shawn of Elizabeth City and Stephanie R. Johnson and Jim of Slidell, La.; two sisters, Roseann Yribe and husband Charles of Wildomar, Calif., and Ruth Ayers and husband Wayne of Sharon, Pa.; a brother, William George Smith of Sidman, Pa. and 10 grandchildren, among which are James, Sandra and Alyssa Rennie and Morgan and Isabella Brock and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Berea Church of Christ with Dr. I.K. “Sonny” Furrow, the Rev. Thomas Biggs and the Rev. Phillip Alligood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
