Mr. Joseph Hilton Upton, 75, of Murphy, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, Murphy. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Upton was born in Colquitt County, Georgia, on July 27, 1931. He was the son of the late John William Upton and Irene Schwall Upton. He was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. He was married to Marlene Painter Upton, who survives. He retired from Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill after 42 years of service. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Wayne Upton and Charles Harden Upton, both of Kinston; one sister, Kaye U. Bannister of Moultrie, Ga. and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, Wesley Alan Upton and one brother, John William “Bill” Upton.
