James G. Baxter, 72, a resident of Chocowinity, passed away June 12, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.

James was born Dec. 2, 1939, on Staten Island, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force; married Linda Lee King in 1963; resided in Long Island, N.Y.; raised three daughters. He retired to North Carolina in 1990, and became a spokesperson, counselor and friend to many people in the  AA community.

Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his wife in 1981. He leaves behind three daughters, Stacey and husband Harvey Leland, Kelly and husband John Tallcott and Jaime and husband  David Vines, all residing in the Chocowinity area. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom he loved very much.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.Tuesday, June 26, at Harvest Church, 2020 W. 15th St., Washington.
