On Sunday, deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on N.C. Highway 306, Aurora. Upon arrival, deputies discovered broken glass and other damaged items in the home. During his investigation, Deputy Brad Cumston learned a handgun found at the scene had been discharged several times during the dispute. Cumston processed the crime scene and collected evidence.
As a result, Cumston obtained warrants charging Jose Luis Bennett, 45, of N.C. 306, with possession of a firearm by a felon, assault and communicating threats. Bennett was arrested and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without bond because of the domestic nature of the charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
