Morgan Boyd’s 15 strikeouts and a balanced offensive attack helped Terra Ceia roll to a 10-1 victory over Bethel Thursday night.
Elizabeth Farmer scored Bethel’s lone run in the fourth inning. She hit a double to start off the inning, and advanced home on Charitee Dunlow double.
Boyd kept the Eagles’ bats quiet for the majority of the game. She had struck out nine straight batters before Farmer broke the drought.
“We’ve known Morgan their pitcher for a long time. She’s a good pitcher. We had not seen that kind of pitching this year yet,” said Bethel Head Coach Lynn Conner.
The Lady Knights started scoring early
Katie Jackson got on base with a single in the bottom of the first inning and advanced home two plays later. Boyd then recorded a double and scored two plays later.
The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning when Haley Noles, Katie Jackson, Morgan Boyd, Kennedy Dall and Holly McDonald all recorded runs for the Knights.
The win moved the Knights’ record to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the TIC. They are ranked second in the conference and third in state. Their next opponent will be The Epiphany School in New Bern.
Terra Ceia head coach Ashley Harris praised his team’s performance.
“We played a pretty doggone good team today and they were well-prepared. We just kept chipping away and scoring runs and played great defense. Morgan pitched a great game and we have a great team this year. If we stay free of injuries, and the team stays focused, we will go a long way.”
Bethel’s record drops to 5-1. They had tallied wins against Pungo, Columbia High School, and Calvary Baptist Church.
