Barbara S. Alligood

Mrs. Barbara Ann Swindell Alligood, 74, a resident of 2221 Slatestone Road, Washington, N.C., died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, N.C. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Mike Caton and Marty Alligood.
Mrs. Alligood was born on Sept. 11, 1936, to the late Henry Thomas Swindell and Marietta Jarvis Swindell. She was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School. On Dec. 22, 1955, she married Harold Owen Alligood, who survives. Mrs. Alligood was a Radiology Technologist for 45 years beginning at Tayloe Hospital and finishing her career at Beaufort County Hospital. She was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ where she played the piano for 53 years.
Mrs. Alligood was a pancreatic cancer survivor for nine and a half years. She battled lung cancer twice in the past year. She was a strong and independent woman who loved God and her family.
In addition to her husband of the home, Mrs. Alligood is survived by her “favorite” daughter, Mary Glyn Rodgers and her husband Mike of Raleigh, N.C.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home located at 2221 Slatestone Road, Washington, NC 27889.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rosemary Church of Christ, 5116 Slatestone Road, Washington, NC 27889 or the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889.

Shepard Cancer Center, the staff of Home Life Care, Inc., the staff of U.H.S. Inpatient Hospice, Dr. Jon Moran, Dr. Wade Naziri, Dr. Sefan P. Marcuard and Stacy Elks with Community Home Care and Hospice for all of the care and concern shown to them.
