Beaufort County Developmental Center hosts its sixth-annual Hoops Shootout at Fitness Unlimited at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Participants will shoot basketballs using Fitness Unlimited’s motorized shooting gun machine. Top shooters advance to round two, and the shootout winner receives a free six-month membership to Fitness Unlimited. Participants who surpass Fitness Unlimited owner Austin Thomas receive free three-month memberships. Fitness Unlimited is located at 622 W. 15th St., Washington.

Pam Daw, BCDC spokeswoman, said money raised by the event will benefit BCDC’s programs that support its adult clients by meeting their personal-care needs and involving them in community activities and events. BCDC’s mission is to empower people with developmental challenges through service alternatives that promote self-advocacy, self-reliance, self-actualization, self-sufficiency and self-direction.

Participants may register up to 10 a.m. Saturday by completing a registration form and paying a $10 fee before then. If paying by check, make the check out to BCDC.

“Walk-ins are welcome,” Daw said.
