National Weather Service: Severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm watch, effective until 10 p.m.
The severe thunderstorm warning expired at 5:45 p.m. At 4:41 p.m. the Doppler radar showed a strong thunderstorm over Chocowinity that was moving east at 5 miles per hour, according to a statement issued by the NWS.
Thunderstorm hazards include pea-size hail, gusty winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour; an excessive amount of deadly cloud-to-ground lightning; heavy rainfall; and minor flooding.
“If you see lightning or hear thunder, you are at risk,” the statement said. “Take shelter indoors immediately. If you cannot find shelter in a building, a vehicle provides safety from lightning.”
