Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

Can you tell us how many Washington Electric Utilities customers are inside the city and how many are outside the city? Editor’s note: 5,428 WEU customers are in the city, leaving 7,930 customers outside the city, according to data provided by the city.

Regarding Sunday’s editorial and Catherine Glover’s column: We have Smart Start, More at Four, Head Start and kindergarten. Reports have shown after the second grade, there is no learning difference between a Head Start student and a non-Head Start student. We are pouring tax money into babysitting services. It is time to put this responsibility back with the parents, where it belongs. It is ludicrous that we are paying to educate children from birth to 5 years old with no shown learning benefit.

Thanks to the city for having the lights in the trees turned on for Music in the Streets in downtown Washington. It was beautiful!

The Beaufort County Democratic Party’s annual convention was announced in a highly visible location in the Washington Daily News. I am sorry the Sound Off caller missed it, but it was announced to the public.

I love it! Get the police station as far as you can out of town. That way it will cause them less time to respond to an emergency.
