Mr. Elvin Ober Harris, 80, a resident of Greenville, died Thursday, April 28, 2011.
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Harris, a native and lifelong resident of Pitt County, had lived in Greenville for the past 30 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked in power line construction for many years, having worked for Stackhouse and Wayne Edwards Company. He attended Hopewell Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mr. Harris adored children and animals, and was very honest and helpful with a good kindhearted soul. He enjoyed joking with friends, restoring old cars, and was an avid gardener.
He was preceded in death by a son, E. Tim Harris; parents, Bonnie Lee and Eula Mae Waters Harris; brother, Delma Gray Harris; and a sister, Thelma Kirkley.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Mills Harris; daughter, Julie Ann Harris Garner, of Greenville; and sisters, Velma H. Lane, both of Washington, and Melva Ledwell, of Union, S.C.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
