Mrs. Edrie “Sissy” Sawyer Shaw, age 98, a resident of 1624 Highland Drive, Washington, NC, died Monday, July 23, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the West Belhaven Church of Christ, officiated by Bob Beltz. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw was born in Beaufort County on November 18, 1913, to the late Fred Thomas Sawyer and Fannie Marslender Sawyer. She was married to the late Lawrence Shaw. Mrs. Shaw worked as a sales clerk at Roses for several years. She loved flowers and reading her Bible and had read the Bible cover to cover several times. Mrs. Shaw was a member of the West Belhaven Church of Christ.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her children: Mary Cook and husband Carl of Leesville, SC, James Lewis of Bethel, NC, Betty Webster and husband Oscar “Doc” of Pinetown, NC and David Shaw and wife Cindy of Washington, NC; two sisters: Ora Mae Russ of Belhaven, NC and Freddie Leftwich of Roanoke, VA; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Shaw is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
