It was another great year for Beaufort County softball as the upstart Washington Pam Pack topped both D.H. Conley and South Central for the first time in a few years while making it to the second round of the playoffs.
The Pam Pack’s run was highlighted by the play of Washington Daily News Position Player of the Year Morgan Bryant and Coach of the Year Doug Whitehead.
While the young Washington team excelled, so did traditional power Southside as Savannah Mumford won her third straight WDN Pitcher of the Year award.
At Northside, the Panthers had an up-and-down season but fought hard till the end as they just missed making the postseason.
This year has been a fun-filled one and the WDN has highlighted a few players that helped make the 2012 season an exciting one with its All-Beaufort County team.

PITCHERS
REBEKAH LANGSTON, WASHINGTON
In her first year as starting pitcher for the Pam Pack, Rebekah Langston was phenomenal as she went 15-6 with 1.45 ERA and guided her team to the second round of the playoffs. Langston was consistently stellar and her pitching seemed to always grow stronger as the game went on.

JORDAN WOOLARD, NORTHSIDE
A gutsy competitor with good command, Woolard went 6-7 with the Panthers and had a 3.33 ERA. During the season, Woolard emerged as the Panthers’ go-to pitcher and was a reliable hurler when she stepped into the circle.

CATCHER
BRITNEY ALLIGOOD, NORTHSIDE
A great team player and leader, Northside’s Britney Alligood was forced into the catcher position and flourished as she batted a team-high .460 with nine RBIs while scoring 12 runs. Alligood’s effort’s earned her an invite to the state games as well as a spot on the All-Four Rivers Conference team.

FIRST BASE
JUSTYCE MCKISSICK, WASHINGTON
Easily one of the best bats around, Justyce McKissick was the heart of the heart of the order for Washington as she batted .409 with two home runs and 26 RBIs, which were all team-highs. On the field, McKissick was just as valuable as the athletic veteran displayed a knack for making scoops and was always alert to game situations.

SECOND BASE
SONDRA SPARKS, SOUTHSIDE
A good veteran infielder, Southside’s Sondra Sparks was always at the right place at the right time. In the field, Sparks made less than five errors on the year, while at the plate she added some pop to the Seahawks’ lineup and hit over .300.

THIRD BASE
CAROLINE SLADE
Tremendously athletic, Northside senior Caroline Slade could do just about anything on the softball field. Slade’s speed and power made her a force at the plate, while her cat-like reflexes at third threatened opposing teams short game, as did her strong arm.

SHORTSTOP
MACY PARAMORE
A solid all-around player, Macy Paramore made the shift from third base to shortstop this season and didn’t miss a beat as she showed tremendous range to get to ground balls and a good arm to throw out runners. In the batter’s box, Paramore hit .400 for Southside and drove in 12 runs.

OUTFIELD
HALEY HUTCHINS, WASHINGTON
In her first year with the varsity team, freshman Haley Hutchins made a spectacular debut. Batting in the two spot, Hutchins could drop down a bunt as easy as she could belt a double as the freshman was second on the team in batting and RBIs as she hit .392 while driving home 25 runs.

VALERIE RUFFIN, SOUTHSIDE
After missing the entire 2011 season with a knee injury, Ruffin bounced back and had a brilliant 2012 season as she hit .372 for Southside. Manning the left field position, Ruffin displayed the same speed she had pre-knee injury as she was able to get to everything hit in her direction.

MORGAN HARDING, SOUTHSIDE
A valuable presence in the middle of the field for Southside, sophomore Morgan Harding brought a reliable glove to center field that helped sure up the Seahawks’ defense. At the plate, Harding hit .372 and drove in 10 runs from the No. 8 spot in the lineup.
DESIGNATED HITTER
SAVANNAH MUMFORD, SOUTHSIDE
The WDN Pitcher of the Year continued to show that her bat is just as valuable as her arm as the Seahawks leadoff hitter batted an astounding .539 and had an on-base percentage of .629. Once on base, Mumford was always a threat to steal and did a great job igniting the Southside offense.
