A foot chase by members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office drug unit ended in the arrest of a Chocowinity man last week.

According to a representative from the drug unit, a Crime Stoppers tip reporting high drug traffic. The drug complaint was tracked to the Emily Court area in Chocowinity, and Shaun Taquan Adams’ residence, said a press release from the sheriff’s office.

When law enforcement arrived, Adams ran out the back door and through the woods, said the representative. Eventually the drug unit investigators caught up with Adams and the members of the patrol division who stopped him in the parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel on U.S. Highway 17 Business, said the release.

Adams had several outstanding arrest warrants in Cartaret, Beaufort and Pitt Counties, as well as one for misdemeanor charges in Florida.

The release said that a search of Adams’ residence resulted in the seizure of a quantity of marijuana, digital scales containing marijuana residue and drug packaging material. Adams was arrested and charged with felony maintaining a dwelling to facilitate drug activity, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist, delay, obstruct a public officer. Adams was also served with a warrant for breaking and entering and injury to personal property from Carteret County and a warrant for a probation violation in Beaufort County.

The spokesman for the drug unit said they often get good information through Crime Stoppers.

“We’ve made some really good cases off of Crimes Stoppers complaints in the past,” he said. “We certainly promote the county to be involved in the complaint process.”

In this case, a drug complaint netted Adams who was wanted on many past charges.

“Anytime you can get anybody who is wanted on the many warrants, it’s a good day,” said the drug unit representative.
