Mr. Leamon Harding Allen, Sr., age 86, a resident of 1144 Pike Road, Pantego, NC died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, NC.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Union Grove Church of Christ officiated by Rupert Wallace, Scott Askew and Dr. Denny Prewitt. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery. Deacons of Union Grove Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers and Elders of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Allen was born in Beaufort County on October 25, 1920, son of the late Daniel William Allen and the late Etha Rose Allen. He was a graduate of the former Pantego High School. Mr. Allen served his country in the US Air Force during World War II. He married the former Dorothy S. Carowan on October 21, 1944 who preceded him in death on April 17, 1982. Later he married the former Mavis McKinney Paul on January 2, 1994 who survives. Mr. Allen was a farmer who specialized in the hog producing field and raised chickens and grain. He was a mentor to many who wanted to start a career in the hog producing industry. Mr. Allen was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ. He dearly loved his church and devoted much time and energy to it including being a member of the deacon and elder boards.
Survivors include Mr. Allen’s wife: Mavis of the home; a son: Leamon H. Allen, Jr. and his wife Martha of Pantego and Elaine A. Respess and her husband Gary of Pantego; two step children: Ken Paul and his wife Beth of Richmond, VA and Kathy Waters and her husband Frank of Pantego; six grandchildren: Julie A. Harris and her husband Eddie Bryant, Jenny A. Brown and her husband Gary, Leamon H. Allen III and his wife Julianna, Wendy R. Woolard and her husband Ashley, Hope R. Tetterton and her husband Derick and Erin Respess; six step grandchildren: Julie Perry and her husband Stacy, Kristy Paul, Kendrick Paul, Tracy Copeland and her husband Mark, Wayne Waters and his wife Cara and Todd Waters and his wife Betsy; eight great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by four brothers: Owen Allen, Kermit Allen, Willie Allen and Jasper Allen and one sister: Fannie A. Harris.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and at other times at the home located at 1144 Pike Road, Pantego, NC.
