Speeding on Harrington Street

To the Editor:
Speeding on Harrington Street. Today we had our second accident on Harrington Street within a month due to speeding and unsafe driving. Harrington Street has a 25 mph speed limit posted between Hackney Avenue and Tarboro Street. This limit is totally ignored by the majority of drivers including school bus drivers and commercial vehicles. At Tarboro Street there is a stop sign, and at Wilson Street crossing Harrington there is a yield sign which most of the time is also ignored.
Traffic turning off Highway 264 onto Tarboro then right on Harrington use this as a cut through to save time. They accelerate in speed immediately upon turning onto Harrington even though there is a 25 mph posted there. People turning off Hackney onto Harrington once again accelerate exceeding 25 until they are forced to stop at Tarboro Street.
The residents have contacted the city on numerous occasions about the problem but nothing has been done. I guess it will take a death of a child to get their attention.
