Todd Blumenreich, principal at the Beaufort County Early College High School, has resigned his post to accept a position with Hyde County Schools, local school officials announced Tuesday.
Blumenreich’s resignation, effective Aug. 31, was accepted at a meeting of the Beaufort County Board of Education as part of a one-page personnel agenda approved unanimously by the board.
He will serve as director of curriculum and instruction for the public schools in Hyde County.
Ginger Jefferson, who serves as a counselor at the early college high school, was named interim principal by the board.
Blumenreich has worked in the county’s public schools since 2005, when he was named principal of Southside High School, a position he held until being named the first principal of the early college high school in March 2008.
Beaufort County Early College High School, a learn-and-earn school based at Beaufort County Community College, began its fifth year of operation earlier this month. Students at that school are expected to earn a high-school diploma and an associate-degree from BCCC in five years.
In other personnel action Tuesday, the board voted unanimously to hire Steve Toler, finance officer for Washington County Schools, as finance executive director for Beaufort County Schools.
Toler is scheduled to begin work with the local schools effective Oct. 1. He succeeds Laurie Modlin who resigned earlier this year.
In other business, the board:
• Voted unanimously to extend until June 30, 2013, its contract with Wilson Cleaning Service of Washington to clean buildings comprising the district’s central-services department.
• Voted unanimously to approve field trips for students from Northside High School to participate in two ROTC drill competitions and the high school’s softball coaches and potential team captains to attend a N.C. High School Athletic Association conference.
• Tabled until its September meeting a policy governing the distribution and display of nonschool materials to give board members and the public the chance to review policy options.
All members of the board attended the meeting.
