On Aug. 13, the Beaufort County Grand Jury handed down more charges for a Washington man wanted by law enforcement.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office had previously issued warrants for Mitchell Alanda StClair Jr., 37, of Sharon Court, Washington, charging him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, second degree kidnapping, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, possession of a firearm by felon, assault on a child under 12, assault by pointing a gun, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, and communicating threats. The charges come from a May 13 report of an assault in which Sheriff’s Office deputies found an adult female with multiple cuts on her face and a juvenile female with a head injury at a residence on Whichard’s Beach Road.
At the time, Maj. Kenneth Watson, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said the cuts on the adult victim’s face were caused by the suspect repeatedly hitting her in the face with a handgun.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, Investigator Scott Williams presented the case to the Grand Jury. True Bills of Indictment for the additional crimes of first degree kidnapping and habitual felon were returned against StClair.
Watson said the habitual felon charge is based on a person’s prior criminal history and can lead to StClair facing additional prison time on top of any other sentences he receives. The charge “definitely says this person has had many chances to right his wrongs and fix his way of life and for whatever reason he has chosen not to,” said Watson.
StClair is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at 252-946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at 252-974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Callers do not have to give their name to receive a reward.
