American Legion welcomes Tanya Parker

To the Editor:

On Saturday, May 14, I was privileged and also mesmerized at the American Legion hall on Market Street. I was watching a musical play, written and directed by Miss Tanya Parker. They had 100 chairs in the building and just seven were unoccupied.

Miss Parker cast her players from Beebe Memorial and Metropolitan AME Zion churches. Her cast, Robert Grimes, James Smallwood, Charlotte Clark, Denise Smith, William O’Pharrow, Chance Parker, Michael Blackledge, Willie Daniels, Rosa Gorham Barrett, and last but not least, the author, director and star actor of the musical, Miss Tanya Parker.

We laughed and applauded the players at the right times. This in itself was unusual. Most times the audience misses the cues. Miss Parker reminds me of Tyler Perry who started out producing his programs at ECU before graduating to theaters.

If the Turnage Theater would take the chance and produce the musical in their theater one weekend, the results would be outstanding or disastrous. Either way, by word of mouth the results would be worth the effort, believe me.

I told Miss Parker that the American Legion would always allow her to bring her performances to Post No. 15.
