CHARLOTTE (AP) — Several North Carolina elected officials and politicians are to take the stage early on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, underlining the state’s story while pointing to President Barack Obama’s re-election bid.
U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton and three U.S. House members from the Tar Heel state kicked off the convention late Thursday afternoon. Former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt also was expected later to introduce a video to highlight prominent Democrats who have died in the past four years.
Dalton is running for governor in November. His campaign said previously Dalton was going to speak Thursday at Bank of America Stadium. But the threat of severe weather caused Democratic officials to keep Thursday night’s festivities inside Time Warner Cable Arena.
