Hyde County needs a new finance officer.
Was anyone else surprised that Republicans went on with their convention while Louisiana was flooding and hit by Hurricane Isaac? It was a little like the Roman emperor Nero, who played his violin while Rome burned. I think it was incredible uncaring and unfeeling for the Republicans to have that convention while so many people were suffering from Hurricane Isaac.
To the caller who thinks that the local newspaper should be featuring nationally ranked teams: you are wrong. A local newspaper should be featuring local sports. If you want to know what the NFL preseason has to offer, log onto the Internet or buy a national newspaper.
If Beaufort County and Washington brought more stores here, we would have revenue instead of everyone having to go to Greenville and Raleigh to go shopping. We need stores like Target, Ross — stores that can bring in money.
The editorial of Aug. 31 titled “Once in a blue moon” is poignant and powerful. It is an example of point of view in an editorial at its very best.
