Amy Pickles will be the keynote speaker at the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation’s annual meeting Tuesday.
The meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 131 Oakmont Drive, Greenville. The meeting, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, is free and open to PTRF members and the public.
Pickles is the senior attorney for state policy at Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. Her address is titled “Clean Water Act: Past and Future Impacts on the Tar-Pamlico.”
Pickle has extensive experience in environmental litigation and environmental-policy development at the state and federal level. She was recently appointed to the N.C. Environmental Management Commission and the N.C. Mining and Energy Commission, which will oversee rulemaking for fracking in the state. She joined the Nicholas Institute in late 2008, and her current projects at the Nicholas Institute include state water allocation policy, innovative strategies to improve protection of drinking water supplies, coastal adaptation to climate change and ocean governance.
The meeting will include reports on fhe Foundation, State of the River and an awards presentation. The keynote address will follow.
