YEATESVILLE — The Northside Panthers looked good Friday night. Not just because they were in their new uniforms they received earlier in the day, but with their play on both sides of the ball that resulted in a 56-22 win over the Perquimans Pirates at Northside High School.
“We played hard,” Northside coach Keith Boyd said. “We ran well and we tackled well and we didn’t have any turnovers.”
The Panthers were led offensively by senior wingback Kysheem Mackey, who had 127 yards and two touchdowns, and sophomore QB Noel Howson, who had 104 yards a three touchdowns.
The scoring began with Northside jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first with two 62-yard runs, with the first by Howson and second by Mackey.  The scoring continued in the second as Howson found the end zone twice more and sophomore, Antonio Woods took a 3-yard carry across the goal line to put Northside up 36-0. With under a minute to go in the half, Perquimans’ QB Nathan Gardner found I’Jawon Bond in the end zone on a 41-yard pass that put the Pirates on the board before the half, as they trailed 36-7.
More of the same came from the Panthers’ offense as they drove 59 yards to start the second half, capped off by a Mackey 15-yard sweep around the left side. Freshman wingback Josh Peacock would join in the scoring with an 8-yard run at the end of the third to put the Panthers on top 50-7 after three. Northside would take advantage of a Pirate turnover and score again early in the fourth on a Malik Slade run. As time wound down Perquimans would put together two scoring drives, as much of the Panther starting defense was on the bench.
