Mr. Furney “Mitchell” Warren, age 68, a resident of the Riverside Community, Washington, NC, met his Lord and Savior suddenly Saturday, September 22, 2012, at his home. A celebration of his life with military honors will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Washington, NC, officiated by Dr. Jimmy Moore and Dr. Greg Barmer. Anthony Bailey, Marc Edwards, Woodson Furlough, Jr., Keith Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell and Paul Winslow, Jr., all former youth of First Baptist whose lives were touched by Mr. Warren, will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:45 PM at First Baptist Church, 113 N. Harvey St., Washington, NC, and other times at the home.
Mr. Warren was born on November 22, 1943, in Beaufort County, son of the late Furney and Ruby Boyd Warren. He graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and Pitt Community College in 1974 with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He loved his country and faithfully served in the United States Army for four years. He was a retiree of PCS Phosphate in Aurora.
Mr. Warren is survived by his wife, Pam Phillips Warren; daughters: Mendi Warren Lewis and husband Shane of Washington, Misti Warren Smith and husband Branch of Wilmington; granddaughters: Rylee Jade Lewis, Kamryn Reese Lewis and Collins Hamilton Smith; sisters: Sally Woolard, Geneva Warren, Daphine Singleton, all of Washington, Sylvia Carrow of Aurora, a brother, Hassell Ray Warren of Concord and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Warren was preceded in death by brothers John Richard Alligood and Owen Glen Warren and a sister Evelyn Alligood Wallace.
Mr. Warren was a Godly man who will long be remembered for his love for his family, his lifetime commitment to the NRA, his outspoken support of his country and a willingness to help others. He was very active in the NC Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief ministry making numerous trips with the organization to help those in need. He also served his church as head usher, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and youth leader. Mr. Warren spent his retirement years helping others in his church and community. He was known for being able to fix anything and was often found in his church or someone’s home lending a helping hand.
