Mr. Harvey Henry Dixon, Jr., age 86, a resident of 105 South East Avenue, North Shores, Washington, NC, died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at First United Methodist Church of Washington officiated by Rev. Danny Allen, Rev. Chris Leak and Rev. Laura Early. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Mr. Dixon’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Dixon was born in Beaufort County on November 22, 1925, to the late Harvey Henry Dixon, Sr. and Laura Plummer Stancill Dixon. Mr. Dixon grew up working on a tobacco farm with his parents and continued farming until he retired at age 60. Mr. Dixon served his country in the United States Army Air Force from 1944-1946. On January 4, 1948, Mr. Dixon married the former Ophelia Mae Harrell, who survives. Mr. Dixon was a member of First United Methodist Church of Washington for over 60 years. Harvey and Ophelia raised their five girls in Beaufort County. Family and friends were of upmost importance to them both.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ophelia Harrell Dixon, of the home; five daughters, Brenda Hardy and husband Bobby of Washington, NC, Laura Davis and husband Paige of Washington, NC, Mary Tom Hink and husband Doug of Cary, NC, Peggy Saba and husband Rafee of Jacksonville, NC, and Julie Kucas and husband Mark of Cary, NC.; a brother, Dirk Stancill Dixon and his wife Susan of Lexington, NC, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
