Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.
In regard to the comment in Sound Off about the orange and white barrels on U.S. Highway 264 at the Beaufort County-Pitt County line: they have been there since the end of June and they are still there. I don’t understand what’s going on.
I highly recommend that the county commissioners looking at the trash and recycling opportunities for Beaufort County review those in Pitt County. Just ride over to Pactolus and look at that site. It is clean, organized and always ready to be used, has good hours and is just a real outstanding facility. I think all of those in Pitt County you’ll find similar. So, just ride up the road and take a look. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Please get us something like that in Beaufort County.
With this upcoming county commissioners election, I challenge all voters to vote not for the incumbents, be it Democrat or Republican. Pick a Democrat that hasn’t been in office. Pick a Republican that hasn’t been in office, but don’t vote for the same people.
Recently, there was a slick, brightly colored flier in my mailbox. The largest print on each side tells the reader that he or she must show a photo ID to vote in North Carolina. Nowhere does the flier reveal the truth. This is not the law in North Carolina. You do not need a photo ID to vote in Beaufort County or anywhere in this state. Early voting begins Oct. 18. Go vote.
