Moses O. Gurganus, 84, died Saturday, October 27, 2012.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Free Will Baptist Church in Bear Grass. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Gurganus, son of the late Redden “Lum” and Mittie Meeks Gurganus, was a native and lifelong resident of the Bear Grass community of Martin County. He was employed at West Point Pepperell for 32 years and farmed all his life. He was a member of the Rose of Sharon Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a member of the choir and Layman’s League.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Ann Harrison Gurganus in 2004.
Surviving are two sons, Roger M. Gurganus and his wife, Jo Ann, and Ted A. Gurganus and his wife, Beverly, all of Bear Grass; four daughters, Judy G. Hartman and husband, Larry, of Marion; Barbara G. Price and husband, Alfred, of Williamston; Deborah G. “Peanut” Kennedy and husband, Ray, and Becky G. Rogerson and husband, John, all of Bear Grass; brother, Clifton Gurganus and wife, Clara, of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren, Tommy Smith, Robin Hartman, Jon Hartman, Mark Gurganus, Christy Winslow, Sherry Pierson, Paula Alligood, Alfred Price Jr., Brookes Walker, Nikki Walker, Trey Gurganus, Michael Greenhaw, Joshua Greenhaw, Ford Kennedy, Elizabeth Kennedy, Luke Rogerson, Rene Rogerson, and Josh Rogerson; 18 great-grandchildren; and longtime buddy, John Albert Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home.
