Write Again … ‘And with all thy getting”

It has been my experience, through the years, to draw comfort, insight, even inspiration, from a handful of sayings. Bromides, if you will.
Among them are these few:
“We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.” — Camus.
Just think about that, for a moment. It explains a lot.
“Nothing is enough for the man (woman) for whom enough is too little.” — Anonymous. About greed.
“And this too shall pass.” — Anonymous.
Now, this one contains wisdom for the ages. Legend has it that it was a custom for the king’s subjects to present a gift to him on his birthday. At the very end of the line came a man with no gift in his hands.
He told the king that he was a very poor man. He owned no worldly possessions of enough value for a king.
Instead, he said he would like to give the king a saying. And that’s when he said, “And this too shall pass.”
As time went by, the king, being a wise man, came to fully realize the value of the “gift” from one of the poorest of his subjects.
Then, of course, there’s the more contemporary saying — one that just might sum it all up.
“’Stuff’ happens.” — Anonymous. (The euphemism was a “must,” of course.)
There is also a source, a rich vein of eternal truths, that can be gleaned from the Old Testament.
Proverbs and Psalms. What wisdom can be found in those ancient writings.
Well, I’ve shared with you a bit of that which has helped to sustain me over time.
For that, of course, I am grateful.
APROPOS — “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding.”
— Proverbs 4:7
