Mr. Vernon Vanwert Daw, 83, a resident of 1054 Swindell Road, Pantego, N.C., died Wednesday May 25, 2011.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday May 28, 2011, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven officiated by the Rev. Allen Harmon. Burial will follow at Belhaven Community Cemetery. Charles Daw, Jr., William Daw, Matthew Daw, Joseph Smith, Selby Daw and Steve Midgette will serve as pallbearers and Dempsey Ange as an alternate pallbearer. Justin Keith and Roger Hudson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Daw was born in Beaufort County on Oct. 24, 1927, son of the late Branch Daw and Myrtle Bell Daw. On Aug. 12, 1949, he married the former Eula Waters who survives. Mr. Daw served his country during World War II in the US Army. He was a farmer and enjoyed gardening especially raising tomatoes. Mr. Daw was a member of First Assembly of God Church, where he was a long time member. He loved his Lord and his church deeply.
In addition to his wife, Eula Daw, of the home, he is survived by three children: Vernon Vanwert Daw, Jr. and his wife, Connie Keech Daw of Pantego, Charles Clifton Daw, Sr. of Pantego and his friend, Velvet Avery of Bath and Ellis Lynn Daw and his wife, Rene Brock Daw of Middlesex, N.C.; six grandchildren: Vanessa Daw Smith and her husband, Joseph, William Branch Daw, Charles C. Daw, Jr., Matthew Windley Daw, Ashley Rebecca Daw and Sarah Elizabeth Daw; two great grandchildren: Justice Smith and Melody Smith; his sister: Mavis Daw Jefferson of Washington and his caretakers and dear friends: Leo and Trumilla King. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas M. Daw and William H. Daw and his sister, Hilda Daw Helms.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home located at 1054 Swindell Road, Pantego.
