It was Super Bowl Saturday at Kugler Field in Washington as the Community Youth Football League’s season came to an end with four Super Bowls.
In the 11-12-year old division the Washington Vikings spoiled the Washington Dolphins bid at a perfect season to clinch the title, while Elijah Burnette scored two TDs to lead the Washington Redskins past the Greenville Titans in the 9-10-year old classification.
Terry Moore put forth a dazzling display to lead the Washington Panthers over the Washington Raiders in the 7-8-year old division and the Washington Redskins were able to down the Belhaven Bulldogs thanks to a balanced offensive effort in the flag football classification.

(11-12-year old division)
Vikings 18, Dolphins 0
The Washington Vikings avenged their regular season loss to the previously undefeated Washington Dolphins with a stunning 18-0 victory on Saturday to win the Super Bowl.
Vikings quarterback Tahj Riddick led the charge as he threw for touchdown passes of 67, 15 and 11 yards in the win.
“We’re very happy today,” Vikings coach Aaron Riddick said. “(The Dolphins) are a great team. They beat us in the regular season and they are well coached and very disciplined. In the championship game it all depends on which team shows up and we showed up to play today.”
The Vikings got on the board late in the first quarter when Riddick connected with Jirah Woolard on a 15-yard TD pass to go up 6-0.
The duo hooked up again in the second quarter as Woolard took a Riddick pass and raced 67 yards into the end zone to go ahead 12-0.
The Vikings would score their final TD with :15 left to go in the first half as a Riddick interception gave them the ball inside the red zone, where a few plays later Messiah Barnes-Loftin hauled in an 11-yard pass to take an 18-0 lead.
With an 18-point lead in the second half, the CYFL rulebook states that a continuous clock must be enacted, and that, along with sturdy performance by the Vikings’ defense was too much to overcome for the Dolphins.
After the game Dolphins coach Mike Nichols praised the effort of his team, who ended the year with one loss and were the regular season champions.
“I’m very proud of this team. I can’t say enough about each and every one of them,” Nichols said. “They did a great job this year and they practiced hard and played hard.”

9-10-year old division
Redskins 22, Titans 6
The Washington Redskins fell behind 6-0 to the Greenville Titans before they ratcheted up their defensive effort to pull out a 22-6 win.
The Redskins picked off three passes on Saturday, one of which was returned for a touchdown right before the end of the first half, to take momentum and a Super Bowl victory.
“We’re just excited, the kids and the coaching staff, the parents and our cheerleaders are all excited,” Redskins coach Tony Hale said after the game.
The Titans took a 6-0 lead when Creighton Lebo hit Hutch Manning for a 17-yard TD pass on fourth down midway through the second quarter.
From that point on it was all Redskins as they struck back with a score on fourth down as well when Elijah Burnette ripped off a seven-yard run to even the score.
Later in the quarter Sayonte Moore stole a Lebo pass and momentum when he returned his interception 43 yards for a touchdown and added a two-point conversion to take a 14-6 lead with :06 remaining in the first half.
“(Greenville) has a great passing game and they run the ball well too, but we started getting a huge drive off on the line and were able to get some pressure on the quarterback,” Hale said. “We were able to make some big plays with three interceptions. It was a big turning point when we got that interception right before the half.”
Moore would later pick off another pass with a brilliant over-the-shoulder catch.
Washington scored its final touchdown in the third quarter when Burnette burst up field 43 yards for a 22-0 lead.
Though the game did not end the way the Titans wanted it to, it did not diminish what they accomplished this season.
“It’s been a long journey. When we started out some of these kids having never played football in their life and they were vital contributors to what we tried to do,” Titans coach Tim Manning said. “I couldn’t be prouder of this bunch.”

7-8-year old division
Panthers 28, Raiders 0
An explosive performance by running back Terry Moore, combined with dominating defensive effort, allowed the Washington Panthers to top the Washington Raiders 28-0 in Saturday’s Super Bowl.
“We’re very happy. I have no complaints with any of our guys. They all showed up to play today,” Panthers coach Ray Pippin said. “We had some younger kids that we put in on defense throughout the game and they stepped up and played well, and we executed really well on offense.”
The Panthers line paved the way for Moore to rush for touchdown runs of 64, 60, 44 and 38 yards, while Hayes Pippin ran for a two-point conversion and threw another one to Moore.
“Terry had another great day for us, Hayes had a great day and Keifer Boyd and the offensive line have been blocking great all season long,” Pippin said.
The Raiders got hot late in the season and made a good run to get to the Super Bowl but could not match the red-hot Panthers.
“I thought overall we played well,” Raiders coach Brian Jones said. “I thought our offensive line did a pretty decent job. The Panthers are a fast team and we could not get outside on them. They’re a hard-hitting team.
“We had a little bit of a slow start (to the season) but our boys have responded well to the coaching, they have come to practice and the games and we did not lose anybody; which was a big goal in the beginning of the season. We got better as the year went along.”

Flag football
Redskins 28, Bulldogs 0
The Washington Redskins jumped out to a 22-0 first half lead over the Belhaven Bulldogs and rode that hot start to a 28-0 victory in the Super Bowl.
Saturday’s win capped off a stellar season for the Redskins.
“We’re very excited. At the beginning of the year our goal was to get to the Super Bowl, but to get here and win it is a great achievement,” Redskins coach Keith Mitchell said. “We came a long way this year.”
Cade Mixon put the Redskins on the board at the 12:23 mark in the first half when he rushed for a 32-yard touchdown, which was backed up by a Rashad Little 23-yard TD run and two-point conversion to go up 14-0 midway through the first half.
The Redskins padded their lead when Perry Fields dashed 24 yards for a score and Little added another two points as time expired in the first half to extend their lead to 22-0.
Taevon McIver scored the final touchdown of the game when he broke free for a 38-yard run to cap off a balanced Redskins attack.
“We had a good assortment of people score, everybody ran hard,” Mitchell said. “Hat’s off to the line. They did a good job blocking. The Bulldogs are well coached and they did a super job and played hard. Compliments to the other team.”
