Dewey Lee Woolard

Dewey Lee Woolard, age 74, a resident of 5404 Slatestone Road, Washington, NC died Sunday evening November 18, 2012 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday November 22, 2012 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Linwood Adams, Fred Wilson and Marty Alligood. Burial will be in the Alligood Family Cemetery located on Slatestone Road. Andrew Holley, Harold Owen Alligood, Glenn Bowen, Ward Bullock, Windell Carawan, Paul Cosentino, Tommy Hale, Phillip Jackson, Sterling Woolard and Bobby Cherry will serve as pallbearers. His nieces and nephews: Rodney Woolard, Timothy Woolard, Luanne Martin, Anthony Woolard, Gina Leggett, Jennifer Mizelle, Paul Mizelle, Steve Mizelle, David Mizelle, Mary Ellen Wooden, Jerry Woolard, Brad Woolard, Melinda Arnold, Jeff Taylor, Sheila Toler, Susan Jarvis, Chris Gillis, Scott Gillis, Jason Adams, Jessica A. Woolard and their families will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Dewey was born in Beaufort County of August 19, 1938, son of the late Worthy Woolard and Stella Spain Woolard. On June 29, 1963, he married the former Gloria Ann Alligood who survives. He was a trucker/salesman for J.H. Pinkham and then Alligood Owens until his retirement in August 2000. He was an outdoorsman and loved taking care of his yard and animals. Dewey was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ, attended Unity Church of Christ and was a member of Beaufort County Grange.

In addition to his wife, Gloria, of the home, he is survived by his brothers: James Worthy Woolard and wife Carolyn and Stonie Woolard; his sisters: Joyce Mizelle, Shirley Taylor and husband Glenn, Genevieve Gillis and husband Mike, and Stella Adams and husband Linwood, and many nieces and nephews to whom he was known as Uncle Dewey and recognized as “Doo Dee” by Fred Wilson, Dawn Wilson, MaryLaura Wilson, Fred Michael Wilson, Mary Etta Wilson Waters, Nathaniel Waters and Frederick Waters.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: Jerry Paul Woolard, his sister: Alma Dean Woolard and his brothers-in-law: Earl Woolard and Charlie Mizelle.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
