The Washington girls coasted into the holiday break as they wrapped up a victory in their final meet of the calendar year by scoring 117 points to top J.H. Rose (103) and D.H. Conley (83) on Wednesday.
“The girls just went out there and had some fun,” Washington coach Spencer Pake said. “Some people swam in events they never swam before and they came up big for us like freshman Riley Anderson who swam in the 500 for us.
“As good as these girls are right now we’re just trying to find ourselves and see what our fastest relays are going to be and that’s what we do with these early meets.”
The Pam Pack boys were not as fortunate. With key swimmers Robert Sandy and Christian Crompton missing some key events, the boys’ team could not pull off another patented late rally and placed third with 61points behind J.H. Rose (152) and D.H. Conley (92).
The Pam Pack girls won a total of six events on Wednesday. Chandler Beach, Emily Pfeiffer, Lanie Godley and Amy Arnold combined to swim a 2:02.12 in the 200-yard medley relay to take first. Pfeiffer screamed past the competition in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:14.98 to beat the next closest competitor by 10 seconds. Pfeiffer was even more dominant in the 500-yard freestyle where her first-place time of 5:26.88 was 12 seconds better than the rest of the pool.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Kaitlyn Richards, Arnold, Godley and Megan Baldwin teamed up to swim a 1:50.16 to capture first. The freshman Baldwin also earned the Pack another first-place finish when she completed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.96.
In the boys’ meet, Sandy and Cromtpon missed some time due to illness, as did Trey Main. Down a few swimmers, the Pack battled but could not overcome Rose and Conley.
Despite not being at full strength, Pake liked the effort by his team.
“I think we did well,” Pake said. “We had to move some people up to the A relays who have never been on the A relays and they did a fantastic job.
“Dillon Wood for example, he had to step up to fill Robert Sandy’s shoes and he did a fantastic job. Those are big shoes to fill. I’m proud of these guys.”
Washington’s Mason Beach, Crompton, James Martin and Luke Harris placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.71. Eric Lovenberg grabbed third-place in the 200-yard IM (2:18.76), as well as the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.71). In the 400-yard freestyle, the Pack placed third as Luke Harris, Beach, Lovenberg and Sandy swam a 3:59.11.
