David “Tex” Davis Sr.

Mr. David Tex Davis Sr., age 81, a resident of 1000 Little Creek Road, Belhaven, N.C., died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at UHS Inpatient Hospice of Greenville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Winsteadville officiated by pastor Timm Hackett and pastor Linda Rowe. Burial will follow in Winsteadville Community Cemetery at Bethany United Methodist Church. Mr. Tex’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Tex was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 12, 1929, son of the late Daniel Clifton Davis and the late Margaret Lucille Paul Davis. Mr. Tex served his country in the U.S Army during the Korean and Vietnam eras. He retired as Sergeant after 20 years of service. Mr. Tex then worked at the former Texas Gulf as a mechanic and retired with 25 years of service. He married the former Metta Elizabeth Selby on Aug. 12, 1951, who survives. Mr. Tex was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and rededicated his life to Christ in the spring of 1997.

Mr. Tex is survived by his wife: Metta Davis of the home; three daughters: Cindy Ross of Belhaven, Darlene Berry and her husband Henry of Sladesville and Denise Davis Wilkinson and her husband Charlie of Columbia, S.C.; three sons: David Davis Jr. and his wife Rose, Greg Davis and Cliff Davis and his wife Faye, all of Belhaven; a brother: Sid Paul Davis of Plymouth; three sisters: Joan Selby Craft and Carlene Potter both of Belhaven and Phyllis Woolard of Plymouth; six grandchildren: Elise and Selby Ross, Crystal Edgar, Hank Berry and Morgan and Dustin Davis and two great grandchildren: Dominic Edgar and Dayton Blackman. Mr. Tex was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Skeeter Ross; two grandsons: Shane and Isaiah Davis and a special brother-in-law: Hal Selby.

The family will receive friends at the home.
