Archie L. Green has been awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine, one of the highest honors bestowed by the State of North Carolina

Green is a retired educator and secretary for the Hyde County Eastern Missionary Baptist Association. He was presented the award by the Rev. Reginald Saunders, moderator of the Hyde County Eastern Missionary Baptist Association, on behalf of Gov. Beverly Perdue. The award was presented Dec. 30, 2012, during the Hyde County Eastern Baptist Church Union at Mr. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Engelhard, in the presence of the congregations of eight churches.

Green was elected secretary in May 1976 and has served in that position for 36 years. He worked as an educator in North Carolina for 30 years, including at Mattamuskeet High School (Mattamuskeet Early College High School) in Swan Quarter. He also served Hyde County and the state as a volunteer emergency medical technician. He served 10 years on the Hyde County Board of Elections. Other service involvements include Hyde County Head, the Economic Improvement Council in Edenton, vice president of Swan Quarter Democratic Precinct, Agency Review Team for the Hyde County Department of Social Services, advisory board member of ADAP Center (a division of Tideland Mental Health Center) in Fairfield, 4-H Hyde County Advisory Expansion Committee, review team for the Southern Association of Accreditation at Farmville Central High School, GED instructor at Beaufort County Community College for 11 years and other community service.

Green performs services for the Hyde County Association and other organizations in and out of the county. He is co-director of the Hyde Legacy Health Program for Men, which offers presentations and workshops throughout Hyde County and other counties on living healthy while managing chronic illnesses.
