Mrs. Catherine Hodges O’Neal, age 91, a resident of 381 E. Bay St., Belhaven, died January 22, 2013, at her home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and will be conducted by Derik Davis. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery. Georgie Baker, Kelvin Baker, Braxton O’Neal, Tony Pugh, Howard Sawyer and Lawrence VanEssendelft will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. O’Neal was born in Beaufort County on March 15, 1921 to the late Ralph Buxton Hodges and Rena Currin Mason Hodges. On May 1, 1943, she married Walter Miller O’Neal, Jr. who preceded her in death on July 24, 2008. She was a homemaker, attended Bath High School and was a member of Belhaven Original Free Will Baptist Church where she played the piano and served as treasurer. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed calling her friends to encourage them which we fondly called her “telephone ministry.”
Survivors include her daughter, Daphne O’Neal Robinson and husband Rich of Belhaven, her son, Walter “Walt” O’Neal and wife Dottie of Belhaven, two grandchildren, Amie Elliot and husband David of Bath, Craig Robinson and wife Amanda of Washington and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Hodges and one sister, Hilda Pugh.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
