Re: Non Profits Targeted

I read with great interest and wanted to laugh out loud; however, the situation with the county commissioners has become so pitiful that we as county residents should be hanging our collective heads in shame. We seem to be satisfied with the unprofessional actions of some of our board members.

I don’t know where Mr. Richardson gets his information regarding the BCAC not needing any money because “they are the wealthiest people in town,” because I am part of the arts council and I sure don’t have any extra money to throw around. Obviously, the council does not realize the amount of visitors that are drawn to our town for the many functions sponsored by the BCAC and when they do, they spend money. Some even like it so much they choose to relocate here.

I also think that Mr. Richardson needs to get off the illegal alien band wagon and realize that programs like the Literacy Volunteers do a lot of work with citizens of the county and by doing so, help the county grow stronger. Everything is not about illegals, so please get over that one.

One of the most ridiculous motions made by Mr. Richardson, to not provide funding for the Chamber of Commerce, was truly laughable, mainly because of the reason he gave. He said that they did not support his stance and supported University Health Systems and not the group he wanted. Is this childish or what? It sounded like he was talking about a bunch of kids not playing well together so they were having their toys taken away. From what I see, most if not all the Chamber of Commerce work really hard to bring more business and people to the county, thus again more dollars.

I know that this is not very popular but I think that when men and women are voted into positions such as county commissioner, the most important thing should be what is most important to the citizens they work for and accomplishing that with whatever it takes. You need to forget about your own opinions, likes and dislikes and yes, at some point party affiliation, to accomplish the goals entrusted to you. That is specifically to make Beaufort County a better place for all to live.
