PLYMOUTH — At times, it looked like the teams were in mid-season form. At others, it was evident the teams still had plenty of work to do before the season opener.
The Washington Pam Pack scrimmaged the Plymouth Vikings at Foster Field on a hot, steamy Thursday evening. Both coaches saw positives and negatives from the event.
It wasn’t all bad news for the Pam Pack head coach.
Travis Daniels, Jamont Jones, Daquan Spencer, Mike Moore, Roray Razor and quarterback Austin Thompson all made some solid plays offensively for Washington.
Plymouth coach Robert Cody was encouraged with his team’s effort.
One player missing from the Vikings is running back Andre Mitchell, last year’s Washington Daily News’ Offensive Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, Angelo Sharpless, an all-area wide receiver last year, has moved to quarterback. Sharpless looked good running the show against the Pam Pack last night.
Sharpless said the transition from receiver to quarterback has been rather easy.
Travis Daniels is hoping to pick up where he left off last year — as the Pam Pack’s top running back. The quick, elusive back, who has set goals of rushing for 2,000 yards and scoring 25 touchdowns this season, said he and his teammates weren’t confident heading into the scrimmage.
Pack defensive standout Cody Cunningham seemed comfortable on the field from the first whistle to the last.
The Pack will play host to Farmville Central in a scrimmage today at J.G. “Choppy” Wagner Stadium. The scrimmage was originally slated to start at 6 p.m., but with temperatures expected to reach triple digits during the day, the scrimmage has been pushed back to an 8 p.m. start.
The teams will hold 10-play scrimmages and then go into live-game situations.
Sawyer invited fans to attend the scrimmage. It’s free to the public. Concessions will be available at the site.
