Mr. Milbert Lee “Bill” Windley, 79, a resident of Ridgewood Manor and formerly of 245 Fantasy Island Road, Belhaven, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital, Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Stephen Community Church with Elder Gary Best officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Windley was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 28, 1927. He was the son of the late Henry and Anna Windley. He attended the schools of Beaufort County and Baltimore, Md. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of St. James Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), where he sang in the male chorus.
Survivors include two daughters, Helena M. Ebison of Washington, and Queenchiku Ngozi of Gainesville, Ga.; one son, Matthew Windley of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Wilson, Olivia Alston, Hallie White, Archie Windley, Orange Windley and Jeston Windley.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the home of Donna W. Mackey, 4884 N.C. Highway 99 South, Belhaven, today and tomorrow until 10 p.m. each evening.
