Rev. W. M. Cordon, age 91, of Belhaven passed away Sunday morning on March 10, 2013 at Cross Creek Healthcare in Swan Quarter, NC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Belhaven Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Wiley Clark officiating. Burial will be at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington following the service.
The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 to 1:30 prior to the service.
Rev. Cordon was born to Joe Cephas and Lotha Tingle Cordon and grew up in the Burbage Crossroads community in Beaufort County. He attended Ransomville Elementary School and Bath High School. Rev. Cordon ministered at the Belhaven Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 20 years, and at the Wades Point, Pinetown, and Swan Quarter Pentecostal Holiness churches. In addition, “Preacher” was a prominent logging and trucking businessman in the local area for many years. He served his country as a civilian welder at Pearl Harbor during WWII, rebuilding the Pacific fleet including repairs to the infamous USS North Carolina battleship (BB 55).
Rev. Cordon is survived by Edna Paul Cordon, his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Melanie Cordon Younce and husband Jimmy of Belhaven; two sons, Rondol Cordon and wife Phyllis of Washington and Raymond Cordon and wife Debbie of Raleigh; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. “Big Brother” is also survived by four sisters, Emma Hudson, Clara Hodges, Vivian Thompson, and Nancy Wallace.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Cordon was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Cordon and sister, Christine Heath.
