Beaver Dam Church of Christ will present its eighth-annual, drive-through Easter panorama next weekend on Friday and Saturday nights.
More than 100 church members, dressed in period costumes, will portray scenes from the life and times of Jesus Christ. This year’s Easter panorama includes 11 scenes depicting his birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection.
Each scene displays the scripture that inspired it. Some scenes include live animals and music. The panorama starts with a nativity scene. There are scenes of Jesus teaching in the temple as a child and of him being baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. The Last Supper and a scene from the Garden of Gethsemane also are included.
Church member Linda Alligood said the panorama has grown each year its been presented.
“I think we’re getting more organized and more experienced,” she said.
Alligood said she loves the event because it is an outreach to the surrounding community.
“It’s Jesus’ resurrection. It’s just as important as his birth. A lot of people do things for Christmas, but there isn’t much at Easter,” she said. “Hopefully, it will make a difference in somebody’s life.”
Beaver Dam Church of Christ is located at 5125 U.S. Highway 264 East near Beaufort County Community College east of Washington. The Easter panorama will be open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the two nights it’s presented. It takes five to 10 minutes to view all of the scenes. Admission is free.
